This was one of the rooms that David was able to start on the week before we moved in. The initial renovation included ripping up the carpet and replacing with wood laminate (pergo), removing the wood panelling and re-finishing the walls.
The wood paneling and carpet came out easily, leaving us with unfinished drywall and a lovely green tiled floor. Although it was his biggest concern, laying the wood floor was actually one of the easiest parts of the project for David. With the help of Scott, Laura and Brad, the floor went down in one day. Repairing the walls was much more time consuming, but the night before the movers came he finished and got one coat of paint up. In the next three months a second coat of paint went up, folloowed by the crown moulding.
We chose a pale green for the walls, with white crown moulding, to balance our big, dark furniture, (which has green accents) and a dark cherry finish for the floors in order to ground the room.
Update, August, 2003: We finally got some window treatments this summer. They're not roman shades, but have a similar look to them. We also painted the fireplace white. It's a quick fix until we can afford to re-finish it. Check out the latest pics here.
